Renmore curate and biker, Fr Murchadh Ó Madagáin, expects a big turnout for the “unusual” event which takes place outside Renmore Church at 10.45am.

The decision to expand the position of new general manager of Galway University Hospitals to include reponsibility for Portiuncula and Roscommon hospitals may signal the beginning of a restructuring of hospitals in the area, the trade union IMPACT has claimed.
Padraig Mulligan, the local representative of the country’s biggest public sector union, alleged the HSE West is attempting to downgrade the Ballinasloe and Roscommon hospitals by instructing them to report directly to the general manager of University Hospital Galway rather than to their own managers.

St Patrick’s Day in Galway will not be a one day celebration of all things Irish, it will be a five-day celebration of music, art, theatre carnival and all that is great about Galway.
St Patrick’s Festival Galway begins this Saturday at the Spanish Arch with the opening of Jane Talbot’s art installation Away With The Birds. The piece is inspired by the skyscape around the Spanish Arch and will be on show throughout the festival.

Familiar authors can still spring surprises. In my case, it was an author – Rudyard Kipling – whom I had not read for many years. Although Kipling was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907, there are, perhaps, few authors whose reputation and popularity have suffered such an eclipse as that of the author of Kim, Captains Courageous, and Plain Tales from the Hills. The only book of his that continues to be popular is The Jungle Book, and that, I suppose, is largely to do with the very successful Disney film of a few years back.
