Open evening for childcare providers on providing nutritious meals

Moon & Spoon, one of the country’s top providers of healthy, innovative and nutritious meals to nursery schools, will hold an open evening for childcare providers at the Menlo Park Hotel on Thursday April 15 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The owners of the company, Tish Dorman and Donna Devlin, will unveil their new spring/summer menu on the night created by celebrity chef Neil McFadden. He designed David and Victoria Beckham’s wedding banquet and has worked closely with Moon and Spoon, under the guidance of leading food and nutrition consultancy Food Facts, to create nutritious dishes children.

“We are delighted to be working alongside Neil to create such imaginative and nourishing pre-school meals and we can’t wait to receive feedback from our friends in Galway,” they say. “To date we have had an overwhelming response from nurseries and our new dishes which include fish pie, chicken tikka, orzo and smoked bacon pasta and tasty chicken goujons, are sure to be big favourites.

“As parents ourselves we are naturally concerned with what our kids are eating in their childcare environment and this is compounded by research from the Institute of Education at the University of London which found that what children eat from their earliest years matters more than their diet later on.”

The findings revealed that 0 to five years is the most important time in a child’s growth. “Yet nutritionists say these are the forgotten years and once children start primary school their taste preferences are already developed making intervention then, more difficult. With this in mind nothing artificial is added to our meals. Moon & Spoon uses seasonal, fresh, local produce to create wholesome dishes which are then blast frozen to ensure the optimum level of vitamins and nutrients are retained.
