Leg waxing to raise funds for Haiti

A Galway man will get his legs waxed this week to raise money to fund a trip to Haiti.

Kevin Byrne is one of more than 200 Irish volunteers who will travel there on April 25 with an Irish charity called Haven. It will build more than 40 homes and community facilities for the victims of the recent earthquake which affected an estimated three million people in this, the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

Volunteers will spend a week working there and will live in tented military style accommodation. They will take part in activities involved in the running of the camp as well as the construction of the new homes - roofing, plumbing, painting, medical, catering, water distribution, etc.

The organisers of the local fundraiser, which will take place at Murty Rabbitt’s pub, Forster Street, on Friday April 9 at 8.30pm - are appealing for support
