Animation workshops at City Museum

THE AWARD WINNING Galway animator John Jennings will host two new Manga workshops in the Galway City Museum next month.

Manga is the distinctive style of Japanese comic book art and animation, examples of which include the TV show Pokémon, the films The Girl Who Slipped Through Time and Whisper Of The Heart, as well as comics such as Gunsmith Cats.

An Taibhdhearc are holding auditions for their next production Boicíní Bhóthar Kilburn, the Irish language version of Jimmy Murphy’s The Kings of Kilburn Highroad which has been translated by Micheál Ó Conghaile and will be directed by the talented Lara Campbell.

Auditions will take place in Galway on Monday, August 23rd and are open to experienced male actors only with a playing age of 35–45 years. Auditionees must be fluent Irish speakers who can adapt to a Connemara accent without flaw.

Joint exhibition by talented Irish artists at GUH Arts Trust

THE GUH Arts Trust is very proud to present a joint exhibition by artists John Lee and Triona Mac Giolla Rí which opens at University Hospital Galway on Friday August 27th at 6.00pm. The exhibition will be officially launched by Dr Dom Colbert.

John Lee is an Irish born artist. Coming from a strong medical background, figurative painting was something very important to him. John says, “My paintings are in many ways classical and in some ways Kitsch in style, using the theory that the person is the indirect form of an icon. A singular figure is typical of my paintings, as is strong use of light from dark”.
