The Irish language is worth in excess of €136 million annually to the economy of Galway city and county, supports more than 5,000 jobs, and more than 90 per cent of city businesses believe that it is a unique selling point for Galway’s image and cultural identity.

Galwegians in line for the interview for the Graduation Diploma in Education (primary teaching) can get help with the important Irish language element of the interview from Conradh Na Gaeilge.
The Marino Institute of Education, St Patrick’s College of Education, and Mary Immaculate College, Limerick are holding interviews in early January for their post graduate diplomas leading to a qualification in primary school teaching.

Today sees the launch of the Galway City Council’s new access awareness advertising campaign as part of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The campaign will include the distribution of leaflets, display of posters on billboards and bus shelters, and advertisements in newspapers and on local radio. The aim is to raise awareness of access and disability issues. In particular it seeks to focus on the misuse of accessible (blue badge) parking spaces and parking in unapproved locations such as footpaths.
