Tuam is in line to get an ambulance base to serve the north Galway/south Mayo area and a planning application has been lodged with the Galway County Council.
Fianna Fáil councillor Mary Hoade called for the installation of the base in Tuam. It was understood a site was available as the county council was prepared to offered its old offices in the town as a location.
At a recent HSE meeting, Cllr Hoade was informed that funding had been received which allowed for a team to be appointed to design the proposed new ambulance base for Tuam and that a planning application will be submitted to the county council.
The application seeks a purpose built base in Tuam to serve the north Galway/south Mayo area on a 24-hour day by day basis.
Cllr Hoade has welcomed the news and said she will “keep the pressure on” to ensure that progress is made on the matter and that the ambulance base is built as soon as possible.
