People who manage volunteers in charities, community groups or clubs are being invited to a Helping Others Help celebration evening in the PorterShed on the evening of November 29. The event is being organised by Galway Volunteer Centre to recognise the critical effort that often happens in the background of community initiatives in Galway city and county.
“Galway city would be a very different place without all the volunteers who help out in our communities every day,” said Helen Ogbu, organisation support worker with Galway Volunteer Centre. “But this volunteering would not happen without the people who recruit and look after volunteers - the volunteer managers. The volunteer manager is the person who makes sure the organisation has the right volunteers, and that they show up and are supported.”

November is National Men’s Health Month, and we are excited to celebrate and bring awareness to students within the college. We started off this past week with a simple coffee morning to get the conversation flowing. We will follow on with an awareness campaign, giving students a chance to speak with a diverse range of charities and companies. We will finish off the month with our societies raising money for a charity of their choice. There will be many different fundraisers, with one student even promising to shave his head when €1,000 is raised.
