Crowe confirms junction changes

Councillor Mike Crowe has this week confirmed that a number of changes are to be introduced at the Moneenageisha Junction in order for it to run more smoothly. Crowe, who is Chairperson of the Transportation Committee, stated:

“Since the change from the roundabout to the traffic lights this area has not functioned properly. I have held several meetings with the director and his team in order to come up with a solution.

Country music singer Mike Denver will perform at a dance in aid of the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust at the Clayton Hotel, Ballybrit on Thursday August 20. Tickets for the event cost €15 and are available at the door or by telephoning (086) 8359169.

His career has gone from strength to strength having recently completed a 34 date concert tour with special guests Roly Daniels and Ray Lynam. He recorded a duet with the legendary George Jones in Nashville last year. Mike has released seven albums and two DVDs.

Volunteer centre gets busier despite downturn

Galway Volunteer Centre has reported an exceptionally busy first half of 2009, with over 1,000 members of the public registering for the first time to use the service. It has been the busiest six months for the centre since it opened in July 2006 and it is now one of the three busiest volunteer centres in Ireland.

Man hides under car and flees from court

A Tipperary man, who hid from gardai under a parked car and fled from the court house while in custody on a separate occasion, has been further remanded in custody.

The Galway District Court heard last Tuesday how an intoxicated Damien Merrigan had tried to hide under a parked car at St Mary’s Road, Galway, when gardai arrived at the scene. He then became very abusive and continued to kick and lash out at gardai as they conveyed him to Galway Garda station.
