Galway’s original health food store, Healthwise, is celebrating 30 years in business this month, and is celebrating by offers lots of great promotions, giveaways and delicious tastings from their store in Lower Abbeygate Street throughout September and October.
Run by Aidan and Maria Kelly, Healthwise was originally set up by Aidan’s brother Seamus in 1979. An unusual choice of business for those days, some would say, but Aidan and Seamus’s mother Betty Kelly saw a future in the wholefood business, and 30 years on, she couldn’t have been more right. “It was risky venture at the time, and was seen as being a shop for alternative lifestyles, but it has become much more mainstream and accepted by younger people in recent years,” said Aidan.
Today, Aidan and Maria are still serving customers who remember when Healthwise arrived in the city. “To see so many of our customers who supported us when we first opened still shopping with us is really satisfying, and they still ask after my mother Betty who's kept up her interest in the area,” Aidan added.
It is this focus on customer service, and their very personable and friendly approach, that have placed Aidan and Maria’s healthstore as a firm Galway favourite. Offering a wide range of health foods and organic produce, the Kellys pride themselves on always having time for each customer, offering invaluable advice on diet and nutrition.
Over the coming weeks Healthwise has organised a host of giveaways, delicious and healthy food tastings, one-to-one consultations with health experts, and talks on the best way to stay healthy this winter.
