Athenry Greens say Yes to Lisbon is Yes to jobs for east Galway

Without the EU, the M6 motorway running past Athenry, its local road infrastructure, and the western rail corridor connecting Athenry to Limerick would “never have got off the ground”.

This is the view of the Athenry Greens who are supporting a Yes vote in the upcoming Lisbon Referendum.

Athenry Greens’ spokesperson Patrick Creed, who contested the Galway County Council elections in June, says people “only have to look around” to see “the positive influence Europe has had on us in the last few years”.

He said the development of the N6, its associated infrastructure, and the western rail corridor “will bring opportunities” for new industry to move to east Galway and provide jobs for the region. He said it will also allow easier access to towns, encourage tourists to visit, and help small and medium size businesses to connect to the all-Ireland road network.

“A Yes vote to Lisbon means a yes to jobs in the region,” he said. “We would encourage everyone to focus on the European issues for this referendum and cast their vote on October 2.”
