Scrubs stars for Monroe’s Live

THE BLANKS, also known as Ted’s Band, from the popular comedy series Scrubs, will be performing in Monroe’s Live on Friday November 18.

On the night the group, led by Sam Lloyd, who portrays the ever put-upon hospital attorney, Ted Buckland, will sing a cappella and perform sketch comedy, skits, and dance routines. As a warm up for their Irish tour they will also release a version of Scrubs’ theme song ‘Superman’ on Irish Indie label Swerve Music tomorrow.

Galway Arts Centre Poetry Slam

THE GALWAY Arts Centre’s November Poetry Slam takes place this Tuesday at 7pm in the Dominick Street venue.

To participate you need one poem/piece that will take three minutes to perform. Judges will select their favourite. The winner will be a guest reader at the next slam and qualify for the Cúirt Grand Slam in April. Their poem will also be published on the Galway Arts Centre website.

The Coronas @ HMV Galway

ONE OF Ireland’s biggest bands, The Coronas, will be in Galway on Wednesday November 16 to do an in-store appearance at HMV Galway.

The band will be in the store at 5pm where they will meet fans, sign copies of their new album Closer To You, and perform live. Closer To You was recorded in LA with producer Tony Hoffer who has also worked with The Kooks, Belle and Sebastian, and Beck.

ONE OF the best-loved Galway restaurants of recent years has been Nimmo’s on the Spanish Arch and the eateries’ many devotees will be delighted to learn that Harriet Leander, the genial Finnish chef who did so much to establish its reputation, has just published a wonderful book, entitled Nimmo’s; Anecdotes and Recipes, combining recipes of favourite Nimmo’s dishes with a wealth of great stories and illustrations.

As she recounts in the book’s opening chapter, it was in 1991 that Harriet left her job as a musical archivist in Switzerland and landed at Shannon airport “with two suitcases and ridiculously little money”, little suspecting where her career path would next take her.
