Like ‘Disneyland for Sea Scouts’ is how one of our Sea Scouts described Nawaka, the National Water Camp they attended in Zeewolde, Netherlands. Held every running years and running for 10 days, the Sea Scout festival is one of the largest of its kind and this year, Port of Galway Sea Scouts returned with 27 scouts and eight leaders to represent Ireland at the event.
With 7,000 scouts and staff on site, the Nawaka village had a real festival feel, complete with popup shops, exhibitions and activities to keep everyone entertained and provided for. The opening ceremony saw the entire compliment of boats descend upon the local harbour of Zeewolde, which was awash with the brightly coloured Lelievlet Boats that each Sea Scout group paints in their group colours.

Independent TDs Sean Canney and Deputy Noel Grealish have called on the Government to provide additional school buses to cater for children with concessionary tickets who are being refused school transport for the upcoming year.
Independent TD for Galway West, Noel Grealish said he has been inundated with calls from parents of children who had previously availed of concessionary tickets and who are no longer eligible, given the increase in applications for school transport, due to the fact the service is free of charge this year.”

“The money and skills are there, now we need action” — so said Green Party Senator Pauline O’Reilly last night when she revealed that both Galway City Council and Galway County Council have underspent the money allocated to them for groundbreaking cycling and walking projects.
She made the comments during a call on both Galway Councils and their councillors to use unspent funding for cycling routes and pedestrian access urgently. Senator O’Reilly has given a deadline of Septembe 7 for the councils to put forward new quick projects to Minister Eamon Ryan, which are called ‘Pathfinder’ projects.
