A local Fine Gael senator wants the legislation dealing with registering the deaths of Irish people abroad to be amended so that Irish citizens who die overseas can have their deaths registered at home.
Oranmore senator Fidelma Healy Eames says there is a pressing need for the current system to be changed.

A new product developed by a local medical device company will provide an improved diagnostic test for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
The EndoFLIP® technology was designed by Crospon which is based at Galway Business Park and was set up in 2006. It develops leading edge minimally invasive medical devices for monitoring, diagnosis and therapy in the gastroenterology area.

It is clear to most people in Galway that the medical device industry plays a fundamental role in the economic fabric of the city. Indeed, while visitors to the city may be surprised to overhear terms like ‘stent’, ‘biomedical device’ or ‘catheter’ rising out of countless conversations on Shop Street on Saturday afternoon, it is hardly surprising to locals who know that more than 6,000 are employed in the medical device sector in Galway. Indeed, if we look at the number of people indirectly employed this figure rises to about 10,000. No doubt every Galwegian knows someone who works in the medical device industry or a related industry.

Mountains reflected perfectly onto lakes as smooth as glass, flocks of sheep running through the finish line and Ultra Marathon course records broken by an English man were the talk of the day at the RonHill Connemara Marathon on Sunday. There were as many stories as there were runners when the 3,200 participants gathered in Peacockes Hotel in Maam Cross for the after run refreshments - many of whom dined alfresco to soak up the 19 degrees of glorious sunshine.

A Galway-based solicitor’s firm has been ordered by the High Court this week not to practise until it has obtained insurance cover.
According to reports, president of the High Court Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns made the order against Lorna Burke, practising as Burke and Co, Kiltartan House, Forster Street, Galway, and three other solicitors’ firms which are based in Dublin.
