Mayor of Galway City, Eddie Hoare has welcomed a commitment by Galway City Council to upgrade a number of junctions on rural backroads in Galway City.
Works commenced last week on improved road markings and signage at the Upper Clybaun Road/Rahoon Road junction and further works are planned this junction and the Letteragh Road/Tonabrucky junction in the coming weeks.

Galway City Volunteer Recruitment Fair to take place on February 18

For the first time since 2020, members of the public interested in volunteering are being invited to the Galway City Volunteer Recruitment Fair in Leisureland on Sunday February 18 between 2pm and 5pm. There will be over 50 charities and community organisations from across the city at the Fair, which is being organised by Galway Volunteer Centre. Last year over 1000 people attended the event to speak to organisations about the work that they do and the volunteer roles that they are trying to fill.

To date in 2024, Anam Cara, the organisation supporting bereaved parents nationwide, has noted an increase to those attending their monthly meetings. Whilst it brings much heartbreak that their services even have to exist, these monthly meetings are crucial to give bereaved parents a space to talk, listen and engage with their peers. This support is a lifeline to many.
Along with their monthly meetings across the country, Anam Cara hold bereavement information evenings, both in person and online, Remembrance Events, provide information packs, along with many other resources. All of their support services are available free of charge.

The Western Development Commission has released a new report which presents further analyses of relocation trends and patterns drawing on data from the 2023 National Remote Work Survey undertaken in collaboration with the University of Galway.
The report sheds light on the significant impact of remote work on relocation. Key findings indicate 14% of respondents have relocated based on their experience of remote working since the Covid-19 pandemic, 63.5% of those relocated from Dublin. Galway is a top destination for relocation with 10% of people already relocating followed by Cork, Kildare, Mayo, and Donegal.
