Top spec changing space for Salthill beach

The Galway city council has opened a new specialist changing facility next to Ladies Beach in Salthill.

The changing places are designed for users with multiple and complex disabilities who may have one or two assistants with them. Facilities include a hoist, an adjustable height changing platform, an adjustable height basin and a privacy screen.

It will be open from 6am to 10pm daily, with a passcode available from a phoneline advertised by the door. An alarm and access to an 24-hour emergency line is also included.

“This facility will improve the quality of life of all those who need it by providing a safe, warm and hygienic space that they can attend to their personal needs with dignity and safety,” said Councillor Clodagh Higgins (FG ) who first proposed the ‘Changing Places’ unit, fitted out to a standard (BS8300 18.6 ) beyond regular disabled toilets.
