Independent Councillor Geraldine Donohue has raised the issue with Galway County Council of the Septic Grant and the issue that only domestic homeowners will be considered if (a ) they are inspected by the council or (b ) live in a particular area and are notified by the council.

She referenced a number of calls from her constituents who have been forthcoming with their concerns in relation to their own septic tank, only to discover that they are not eligible as they were not selected for inspection.

Cllr Donohue tabled a Motion which was seconded by Cllr Evelyn Parsons and unanimously supported by all the councillors, seeking agreement from the Dept of Local Government that any homeowner who is forthcoming and expressing a concern about their own septic tank system, be supported financially with the grant and their application.

Cllr Donohue went on to say that it is important that anyone who wants to do the right thing in highlighting concerns be fully supported, and went on to say that there was much fanfare around the announcement in January of the increase in funding from €5000 to €12000 for septic tanks.
