Many thought it would not happen before the Volvo Ocean Race. Many believed it would not happen long after the race left Galway, but this week it was confirmed that the massive oil tanks at the docks will be taken down by the end of April.

Speed ramp in Renmore denies hundreds a bus service says Leahy

Some 400 households in the Lurgan Park-Gleann Rua area of Renmore are being denied a bus service as a speed ramp in Murrough Avenue is preventing buses from getting into the estate.

This is the view of Fianna Fáil councillor Mary Leahy who has written to officials in the Galway City Council calling for the speed ramp to be “modernised immediately to facilitate a bus service”.

Sinn Féin mountain challenge fundraiser

Sinn Féin in Galway West will hold a mountain challenge this Saturday in a bid to raise funds for the upcoming Local and European elections.

Members and supporters will climb the Cnoc Mordáin mountain in Ros Muc, Connemara. Teams of five will be assembled with each participant paying the €20 entry fee. The team which finishes first will then be awarded €500.
