Gort school children have their say on human rights

The winner of the 2009 Young Social Innovators Challenge for primary schools in the Gort area, organised by Transition Year in Gort Community School, will be announced on Saturday.

The overall winner and runner-up will be announced at the Gallery Café, The Square, Gort. The transition year students designed and created a competition for primary school students in the Gort local area to educate them about human rights and the Millennium Development Goals.

Schools are asked to come up with projects - in the form of posters, pictures, collages, CDs, poems, etc - to display what they have learned about human rights issues. Entries will be judged in the school by a panel of teachers and students.

On Saturday, the Gallery Café will host a five hour open door gallery of the primary school students’ projects. Light refreshments will also be offered at the event.
