Meals on Wheels selected for ID documentary film project

Community Catering Meals on Wheels, a part of COPE Galway, has been selected to take part in the 2014-2015 ID film project run by the Galway Film Centre and supported by Galway city and county councils.

Galway Film Centre, under its ID Film Projects Scheme, has been working with community groups to develop technical, practical, and personal skills in the area of documentary-making since 2000.

UHG nurses plan industrial action after Government’s broken promises

Pyschiatric nurses from Galway and Roscommon will gather in the Clayton Hotel, Galway, tonight to consider the ongoing dispute over staffing and patient safety at the acute psychiatric unit in UHG.

The dispute has already led to a lunchtime protest by staff at the hospital last week. Noel Giblin, national secretary of the PNA, stated that the organisation was “overwhelmed by the level of support we received”, from off-duty nurses, non-nursing medical professionals, the public, and local politicians.

HIQA wants Galway hospitals to revise blood monitoring procedures

Galway’s hospitals are being asked to review their procedures for management of blood monitoring equipment following unannounced inspections at the hospitals by the Health Information and Quality Authority.

HIQA, in two reports on the inspections published this week, has raised concerns that poor management of equipment could put patients at risk of contracting hepatitis and other blood-borne pathogens.
