Galway people take part in Transplant and Dialysis sports championships

Two Galway people, Linda Waters and Zimele Brown of Athenry, will join the 34 athletes representing Ireland at the eigth European Transplant and Dialysis Sports Championships in Krakow, Poland, from Saturday August 16 to Saturday August 23.

The Irish Team, which comprises 25 men and nine women ranging from 16 to 76 years, includes 29 transplants recipients, as well as five people who are receiving dialysis treatment.

The team also features former Munster and Ireland rugby player Richard Costello, dartsman Sean Marshall, and table-tennis player Mary Sheehan.

Members of Transplant Team Ireland attended a motivational talk by Dublin senior football manager Jim Gavin, which was held at the ALSAA Sports Complex on Sunday July 6.

Speaking about his involvement, Gavin said: “I feel humbled and priviliged to be in the presence of such a large group of inspirational people

“Your resilience and determination to embrace life through sport is commendable and seeing you represent your country surely gives comfort to donor families as well as promoting to the public the indisputable importance and success of organ donation.”
