Radio presenter Valerie Hughes' homebred Bernese Mountain Dog Carraigbern Miss Alice became the only Bernese Mountain Dog in Ireland to currently hold the title of GB Champion when she won the Challenge Certificate and went Reserve Best in Show at the Northern Bernese Mountain Dog Championship Show in the UK recently.
. A very proud Valerie said this is a special achievement and is made twice as special by the fact that it was a breed specialist who awarded her the CC. Mrs Jude Simonds, the judge, is one of the longest established breeders in the UK and has written a book on the breed.

The lights went down, the name was called out and in the early hours of last Friday morning, after 3,000 people had sung their way through the heats; after thousands of people had made their way through the doors of Coyotes on Forster Street, after so many hopes and aspirations were raised and dashed, one dream was realised and it belonged to Ailbhe Hession, who ended the night clutching a big fun-sized €10,000 cheque.
