A lot done, more to do on Doughiska Road, Nevin tells council

Good work has been done recently on the Doughiska Road but failure to deal with a dangerous curve and the failure to provide a connection to the Coast Road are causes for regret.

This is the view of Fine Gael Galway City East candidate Barra Nevin, who is calling on the Galway City Council to review both ends of Doughiska Road which were not considered in recent improvements.

Mr Nevin says the junction between Doughiska Road and Briarhill “winds dangerously” around the corner and that articulated trucks are backing in and out of the road to access the delivery entrance to Dunnes Stores and this is creating a bottleneck at one end.

“City Hall should have included this into the almost completed Doughiska Road improvements,” he said. “I have asked for a re-alignment project to be considered as a priority issue.”

He was also disappointed that the other end of Doughiska Road going through Roscam to the scenic Coast Road was not tied in with this project.

“At times of recession, it is important that such projects are maximised to save money in the long term,” he said. “At this late stage, City Hall must at least repair the potholes on this part of the road as a temporary measure.”
