The Hindu feast of Dewali has just passed. The Christian festival of Christmas and the Muslim feast of Eid are coming close. Galway is now home to many different peoples from the vast continent of Asia and these communities are staging a special event to celebrate their heritage and to share it with native Galwegians.

Major Brazilian film to be shown in Gort

GORT TOWN is Co Galway’s ‘Little Brazil’ and it’s appropriate the Cinemobile will screen the Brazilian film Linha de Passe this Saturday at 8pm at the Community Centre Car Park.

Linha de Passe is directed by Walter Salles (Central Station and The Motorcycle Diaries). It tells the story of four brothers from an extremely poor family who fight to realise their dreams. One young hopeful, played by Vinícius de Oliveira, trained for four years to perfect the footballing skills he displays in the movie.

Liam Lawton to play Croí Christmas Cabaret

LIAM LAWTON, the Roman Catholic priest, vocalist, and internationally acclaimed songwriter and performer will play this year’s Croí Christmas Cabaret at the Radisson SAS Hotel on Wednesday December 3 at 7pm.

This year’s cabaret will be different from previous years in that Fr Lawton’s show will be a full concert with supporting acts. The night will begin with hymns and carols from the Galway Chamber Choir under director Mark Keane; music from the Guinness Dance Band, and tango dancing from Marion and Enrique of Caminos de Dance. Then Fr Lawton and his band will take to the stage for the main part of the concert.
