ONCE WERE Cops, the new novel from Galway author Ken Bruen has just been published and already it has met with glowing reviews in the USA.
The book, published by St Martin’s Minotaur, centres on Michael O’Shea, a former member of the gardaí who joins the NYPD. He is paired with an unstable cop named Kebar but both these brutal men harbour darkness inside and that darkness is about to come into the open.
The Associated Press review of Once Were Cops described the book as “downright terrifying” and praised Bruen’s writing for its “short staccato bursts which are curiously mesmerising”.
The review was picked up by The San Francisco Chronicle, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Ventura County Star, and Myrtle Beach Sun-News.
Booklist has called the novel “a chilling and deeply creepy read...further proof of his writing talent”, while Publishers Weekly praised his ability to “romp at will through genre clichés to quickly reach deeper and more dangerous depths”.
