Award winning Galway cartoon film opens this weekend

NIKO AND The Way To The Stars, a new children’s feature animation which comes to The Eye and the Omniplex this Saturday and Sunday, was made by local Galway company Magma Films.

The film tells the story of Niko and his attempt to find his father and become one of Santa’s reindeer. Galway based writer Marteinn Thorisson co-wrote the screen play.

The voices are by Irish actors Andrew McMahon, Morgan Jones, Paul Tylak, Aileen Mythen, and Alan Stanford

Together with Finnish film company Anima Vitae, Galway based Magma’s own daughter company Ulysses Films in Germany, and Afilm in Denmark, the film picked up both the Cinekid Lion Award and the Audience Award for Best Film. It is the first time a film has picked up both top awards.
