Containers carrying aid to Gaza from the Galway Palestine Children’s Appeal were prevented by the Egyptian police from leaving the port in Alexandria on Tuesday.
On February 3 two containers - filled with a wide range of supplies from medical equipment to toys - left Galway on the journey to Gaza via Alexandria in Egypt.

The trial of a Galway man accused of murdering Swiss teenager Manuela Riedo has heard that calls made from his mobile phone bounced off a mast in the Lough Atalia area on the night of her alleged murder.
The jury also heard that the accused man told gardai he did not go into Galway city on the night of the alleged murder.

The Central Criminal Court has heard that the DNA of a Galway man accused of murdering Swiss teenager Manuela Riedo in October 2007 was found inside a condom that had been found at the scene of her death.
The jury also heard that the accused man sold Ms Riedo’s mobile phone to his sister’s boyfriend nine days after the killing.

Green Party Cllr Niall Ó Brolcháin along with this fellow Green Local Election candidates will do a sponsored walk from Athenry to Tuam.
The Greens will walk along the proposed route of the second phase of the Western Rail Corridor from Athenry to Tuam. The sponsored walk will be to raise funds for the Galway Greens in the run up to the Local Elections and to promote one of the few significant public transport projects outside of Dublin.
