Burglar caught red-handed gets six months

A burglar who had used up his chances was sentenced to six months at Galway District Court this week while his accomplice received a suspended sentence.

James Morris (22) with an address at 11 John Coogan Park, Newcastle, and Joseph McDonagh (20) with an address at 32 Droim Chaoin, Rahoon, appeared before Judge Gerard Haughton charged with possession of a screwdriver and gloves, while not in place of residence, with the intent to commit burglary at 39 Ard Na Coiste on June 11, 2008. They were also both charged with committing criminal damage while trespassing on the same date and address.

Two days of storytelling and dance in Coole Park visitor centre

Coole Park, located just a few miles west of Gort, is bringing two days of storytelling and dancing to its visitor centre for Galwegians of all ages to enjoy.

Starting this evening, it is a night of storytelling with local storyteller Clare Muireann Murphy as she spins stories from Galway county in this session of stories for adults. A uniquely devised blend of old Galway stories, from the myths and folktales that make up the lie of the land to the more contemporary urban legends, this original gathering of tales, researched and developed by Clare will give you a new perspective on Galway. Come and enjoy an evening full of tales of love, adventure, betrayal and loss set amidst the lovely green hills and beautiful coastline of Co Galway. Not suitable for children under 11 years, stories will begin at 8pm.
