New academy for those interested in becoming nail technicians

You sit there. Trapped. Frustrated. Angry at the car in front of you. Though there is little reason to be. They’re probably angry at the car behind them for looking angry at them. You bang your steering wheel. You swear. To yourself. And then loudly. You check your watch. Another minute has ticked by. Then another five. And you’ve moved 20 yards and to make it worse when the green lights ahead of you turn green, nobody moves, because nobody can move because people creep into yellow boxes and take chances because that’s what you do when you’re caught in traffic.

You get aggressive, you take chances, you develop a feck you attitude to other drivers. And the clock ticks on. And then you realize that you’re not moving. That the guy from the office who’s walking home has passed you out. And the smart lights wink smartly again. Changing colours. Red for when traffic moves. And green for when it comes to a complete stop. And orange just for the craic. To match your reddening complexion.

Criticism about the state of the Blackrock diving tower

A nephew of one of Galway’s most famous hurling heroes has lamented the state of the Blackrock diving tower in Salthill. Séan Duggan was one of the most high profile users of the facility, swimming there for more than 50 years. Indeed in hail, rain, or snow the GAA legend still undertook his daily swim, up to six months before he passed away at the age of 91. His nephew Peter L Duggan says it is a travesty that the famous landmark has deteriorated to such a state.

Two more women forward detailing incidents where they have been followed

Last week the Galway Advertiser featured an article after a local woman contacted the paper with a story about a frightening incident which occurred the previous Monday. The woman was driving home alone at 11pm on the main road between Moycullen and Spiddal (known as The Mountain Road) when she noticed a car to her rear being driven erratically. She detailed how a car came flying up behind her and began tailgating her and flashing lights.

Fundraiser for Pernet to be held next month
