Galway East TD Seán Canney has received confirmation that the Rural Broadband Plan is on course to commence installation of broadband to all rural homes by June 2017.
Following a meeting with the Secretary General of the Department of Communications the following issues were clarified:
— There is no suspension of the rural broadband roll-out.
— There are no legal challenges to the process for procurement.
— The Department anticipates the preferred bidder will have been selected by May or June 2017 with installation to commence shortly after that.
Yep Canney said that he will continue to engage with the Department to ensure there is not further delays to the Plan.
“The future development is relying on a proper broadband service to every house rural and urban,” he concluded.
