In the case, Mrs O’Connor’s family were awarded €580,000.

Driving on the wrong side of the road into the path of an oncoming Garda patrol car, landed a Moldovan man with a four-year disqualification and €900 in fines at Galway District Court this week.

Marcel Paierele (31), 150 Cluain Riocaird, Headford Road, Galway, pleaded guilty to failing to give a sample when arrested on suspicion of drink driving last Sunday, July 27. He also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Tirellan Heights, Headford Road, Galway, on the same occasion.

Probation for city man who stole from his employers

A 21-years-old Shantalla man who stole over €3,000 from his employers over a three-week period was placed on probation for six months at Galway District Court yesterday.

Declan McGowan, 29 MacDara Road, Shantalla, Galway, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of stealing an estimated €3,226 from Pet World, Terryland, Galway, on dates between November 7 and 26 last year, when he first appeared before the court on June 23 last.

Custody remand for man in connection with drugs seizure

A man who was arrested by gardai and brought before a special court sitting last Saturday in connection with the seizure of a quantity of cocaine, has been remanded in custody following his appearance before Galway District Court this week.

Patrick McGahan (40), 4 Marsden Terrace, Belfast, Co. Antrim, is charged with having cocaine in his possession at Dublin Road, Oranmore, on July 25 last and with having the cocaine for sale or supply to another on the same date.

An ex-Christian Brother has been acquitted by direction of Judge Tony Hunt of sexually assaulting boys some 40 years ago in a Galway industrial school.

Judge Hunt withdrew all 35 charges from the jury on day-11 of the trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
