Storm damage to Galway sports grounds highlight the need for relief fund, says Keane

With a number of Galway’s sport clubs still impacted by the damages caused by recent successive storms Isha and Jocelyn, Galway city Fianna Fáil councillor Peter Keane has urged the Government to establish a ‘Sports Infrastructure Relief Fund’.

The proposed relief fund should, Cllr Keane says, be given to clubs that have been affected by the ‘recent destructive weather events’. One of these clubs, the Galway Lawn Tennis Club (GLTC) is dealing with ‘severe infrastructure damage’ of the club’s distinct outdoor dome, which was torn down by Storm Isha on January 21.
