Galway Travellers to make voting call alongside Ireland’s referendum information campaign

Galway Traveller Movement will be welcoming the Chair of Ireland’s independent electoral commission tomorrow Friday, January 26, as Ms Justice Maire Baker visits the Ballybane Community Resource Centre to talk to Travellers from across Galway city and country about voting in the upcoming March 8 referendums.

The information campaign for the two March 8 Referendums begins today Thursday, January 25. Ms. Justice Baker is using the first day of the Electoral Commission’s referendum campaign to travel to Galway to meet Travellers who have been active in promoting electoral participation within the community, talk all things referendum and voting, and learn more about the work of Galway’s Traveller Movement.

An Coimisiún Toghcháin, Ireland’s independent electoral commission, is responsible for explaining the issues to be voted on in the two 8 March Referendums, and for encouraging people to get out and vote. The Commission is independent and not backing any side in the campaign.
