The IIHCS recognises that there is a chronic shortage of qualified chefs in Ireland and this is particularly true in the west. After talking to a number of professional bodies and restaurant owners the IIHCS is pleased to launch its Spring level 5 (QQI major award) programme, which will begin on April 18. This is a 16 week full-time programme followed by a period of placement within specially selected kitchens in the area and working with committed chefs who will ensure that you continue to learn while practising the skills learned in the training kitchen.

A Sage 50 accounts course will prove a progressive course of study for anyone who simply wishes to advance his/her business skills. The QQI Level 5 course will run for five days over five weeks, commencing March 25 in Galway. Learners will experience setting up a company, entering source documents in the various day book, and preparing debtors and creditors balances and reports. Learners will learn to produce VAT reports, bank reconciliation, and monthly profit and loss and balance sheet reports.
A QQI Level 5 Payroll Skills course will commence on April 5, and take place one day a week over four weeks. Learners who successfully complete this course will acquire a thorough knowledge of basic PAYE computations to include the cumulative, week one, and emergency tax basis. Learners will learn and understand PRSI and USC computations, how to deal with starters and leavers, file Revenue forms, and year end procedures in both a manual and computerised context.

Enrolments for the Leaving and Junior Cert intensive Easter courses are currently being accepted at The Galway Study Centre in Mill Street. Classes will start on Tuesday morning March 29 and continue until Saturday April 2. Bookings will continue to be accepted up until Thursday March 24, provided there are places vacant. However as many subjects are almost booked out, there is limited availability at this stage. There is also a week of supervised study for Leaving students starting from next Monday, March 21. The supervised study group is limited to 15 and only a couple of fee spaces remain.
