DEAD HORSE Jive, the Galway quintet who play AC/DC, Mötörhead, and KISS inspired “dirty rotten rock’n’roll”, play Upstairs at Kelly’s Bar on Friday March 20 at 9.30pm.
The band - Brendan Waldron, Owen O’Shaughnessy, Joycee, Martin Collins, and Phillip Welby - play a mix of blues, punk, and rock’n’roll, with songs about “times we can hardly remember and others we'd love to forget”, with a “neverending quest to have a good time”.

LOTUS: A Play in Four Acts, written, produced, and directed by Rosa Jones, and featuring young Galway actors, will be performed in the Nuns Island Theatre this Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.
Written by 17-year-old Rosa, and featuring a cast aged between 17 and 19, it deals with the growing pains, social pressures, loneliness, and anxiety felt by teenagers today. It is set one feverish night after a disillusioned 17-year-old Sam, played by Siofra Brogan, has her drink spiked.

ROSSINI’S OPERA, La Donna Del Lago, will be broadcast live from the Metropolitan Opera, New York, to The Eye Cinema, Wellpark, this Saturday at 5pm.
Starring the bel canto superstars, American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez, Le Donna Del Lago is set in the Scottish Highlands and based on a novel by Sir Walter Scott. Elena (DiDonato) is pursued relentlessly by the king (Flórez), who travels in disguise, leading to much confusion and a dramatic love triangle. The period-costumes are by Paul Curran and the conductor is Michele Mariotti.
