New Music: Different Sounds - a concert series

NEW MUSIC by Irish and international composers, performed on a variety of instruments and in a variety of combinations from solo to septet, feature in New Music: Different Sounds.

New Music: Different Sounds is a concert series organised by The Galway Music Residency which takes place over the next three Saturdays, March 14, 21, 28, at 8pm.

The opening concert this Saturday with Romania’s Alex Petcu in NUI Galway’s Lower Aula. The National Concert Hall Rising Star 2015, he will be joined by ConTempo for performances of Astor Piazzolla’s Four for Tango and Ney Rosauro’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings No 1. He will also perform solo works including Evelyn Glennie’s A Little Prayer.

March 21 will see contemporary music ensemble Concorde, and ConTempo, perform Ed Bennett’s Static Tones and Sliding Doors (2015 ) and Jane O’Leary’s The Echo Of All That’s Happened (2014 ), among other works, in the Nuns Island Theatre.

The final concert on March 28, also in Nuns Island, features woodwind instrumentalist and composer Seán Mac Erlaine. His new work for clarinet, string quartet, chalumeau, and live electronics based on Joyce’s Finnegan’s Wake will be premiered at this concert. ConTempo cellist Adrian Mantu will play Sollima’s Lamentatio.
