Colours Fringe Festival

THE 2012 Colours Fringe Festival opens this Sunday and runs until Sunday July 8, featuring music, visual arts, literature, dance, and theatre.

The theme for the third Colours Fringe Festival is ‘Encore’ and this year’s festival is dedicated to the memory of the late John Arden. In his honour, 10 local writers will compete for the John Arden Award, which takes place Upstairs In Kelly’s, July 8, from 3pm to 5pm. On the same night in Kelly’s popular folk band The Atlantic Pirates play at 9pm.

The 30 Minute Film Festival

THE 30 Minute Film Festival run by Galway Film Centre, Galway Film Fleadh, and Solid Media, is calling on filmmakers and film enthusiasts to take part.

The festival is seeking one minute HD films, which can be uploaded onto Youtube. Thirty such films will be selected by a panel of judges and screened on July 15 as part of the Galway Film Fleadh.

NUI Galway to host major cinema summer school

NUI GALWAY’S Huston School of Film and Digital Media will host the Cinema, Human Rights and Advocacy summer school from July 6 to 13.

The summer school’s programme was originally launched in 2006 in Venice in co-operation with the Venice International Film Festival. In 2010, supported by the Galway University Foundation, the school moved to NUIG’s Huston School and the Irish Centre for Human Rights, in co-operation with Galway Film Fleadh.
