When the dealer threw the cards on the table last Sunday evening, it was Galway who got the joker in the pack - drawn to play against Kerry on Saturday in Croke Park at 4pm.
There is no doubt Kerry were the toughest team to pull from the round three winners. The other three teams - Kildare, Wexford, and even Tyrone, are not operating in the rarefied atmosphere that Kerry have inhabited in the past few seasons.

The Irish women’s junior 8 rowing team which won gold in Cardiff at the Home Countries International Regatta, beating England, Scotland, and Wales. Galway boasted seven rowers on the team. The Galway docks was expected to be awash with colour last evening with the second of the Galway Bay Sailing Club’s Alfa Romeo Late Summer Seriers due to finish in the city.
Sailing out of Rinville, the cruisers will complete their race in the docks to join the official welcome to Ireland’s Volvo Ocean Race team, the Green Dragon, to her home port. The 70ft yacht is due to leave Galway today after a four day visit.

There was great success for the Tribesmen Rowing Club in the European Rowing Championships held at Inniscarra Lake in Cork over the weekend.
The Coxed Eight rowed on Friday and were the Bronze Medal Winners in a tense, nail biting finish. The finish was so close, in fact, that Italy were celebrating victory of the bronze medal until a photo finish confirmed it was Ireland that were ahead. France and The Netherlands won the Gold and Silver medals respectively in this competition. The Coxed Eight team was made up of Kate Rushe, Lisa Dilleen, Aisling Harris, Katie Barrett, Aifric Keogh, Holly Nixon, Orla McEvoy, Sarah, and Rachel Egan.
