There was great success for the Tribesmen Rowing Club in the European Rowing Championships held at Inniscarra Lake in Cork over the weekend.
The Coxed Eight rowed on Friday and were the Bronze Medal Winners in a tense, nail biting finish. The finish was so close, in fact, that Italy were celebrating victory of the bronze medal until a photo finish confirmed it was Ireland that were ahead. France and The Netherlands won the Gold and Silver medals respectively in this competition. The Coxed Eight team was made up of Kate Rushe, Lisa Dilleen, Aisling Harris, Katie Barrett, Aifric Keogh, Holly Nixon, Orla McEvoy, Sarah, and Rachel Egan.
The Quad Team were well represented on Saturday and Sunday by Orla McEvoy, Aisling Harris, Holly Nixon and Siofra Bennett. Claire D’Urso was the women’s single sculler and came fifth and seventh in her races over the weekend.
There was also a coxless women’s 4 team made up of Aifric Keogh, Katie Barrett, Rachel and Sarah Egan.
Eleven European nations competed, with Ireland winning a total of eight medals. The medal winners were spearheaded by Lisa Dilleen of the Tribesmen Rowing Club and Laura D’urso, (City of Derry Boat Club ), who rowed fantastic races to win two gold medals on both Saturday and Sunday in the women’s double scull.
