Charities benefit as hurling stars attend AIB community event.

AIB Galway hosted a community event for COPE Galway and Galway Hospice last week in the Clayton Hotel in Ballybrit. In attendance was GAA Hurler of the Year Joe Canning and his fellow All-star teammate Gearoid Mc Inerney. More than 300 people attended the event to help raise funds for the two charities. Over €1,500 was raised which will be split evenly amongst the two charities.

Portumna public water supply removed from Remedial Action List following Irish Water works

The Portumna water supply has been removed from the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Remedial Action List (RAL) following a programme of upgrade works to the treatment plant by Irish Water.

Last May, the Portumna water supply was deemed to be THM-compliant by the EPA who then changed the scheme’s categorisation on the RAL to ‘treatment and management issues’. Upon completion of a year-long programme of works to enhance process optimisation procedures at the plant, along with upgrade works, the scheme has been removed from the list.

High Court rejects latest legal challenge to Apple data centre in Athenry

Plans by tech giant Apple to develop an €850 million data centre outside Athenry have once again been given the go-ahead this week with a decision by the High Court to reject an eleventh-hour appeal by two local residents. The pair had sought to challenge the court's previous decision to refuse their application to have planning permission for the development overturned.

Galway City Museum turns ten and it has cake

Galway City Museum is 10 years old and proud to celebrate a decade of success since officially opening in 2007. Building on the work of the previous museum in Comerford House which opened in the 1970s, the current building was established by Galway City Council to further safeguard and promote the cultural heritage of Galway.

The past 10 years have seen the development of both long-term and temporary, high quality and engaging archaeology, art, history and science exhibitions. During this time, staff have made Galway City Museum an experience to remember, growing visitor numbers from 16,000 in year one to an astonishing 220,000 plus visitors today.
