The Minister for the Diaspora and International Development, Ciaran Cannon, has formally opened the new six classroom school building at Cahergal NS, Tuam.
He commended all who were involved in securing this excellent new educational development for local students. “It is a momentous milestone in a long and interesting history of education in Cahergal. The three-teacher school which was built in 1952 on an adjacent site was certainly a far cry from the magnificent six-classroom building that has now replaced it.
“It is almost 20 years since the board of management of Cahergal National School made its application to the Department of Education and Skills to upgrade the outdated 1950’s school building, and everything that has happened since then highlights the benefits of active partnership within a local community.
“This project could not have been completed without a combination of strong leadership, local enthusiasm, and vast reserves of perseverance and patience. This truly is a visionary building which will be a marvellous resource for the local community and the parish of Killererin for many years to come. It is a great source of satisfaction to me to see communities like Cahergal making visionary thinking, represented in this new school building, become a reality”
