Council denies claims by Cameron over unused bins

This week Labour city councillor Billy Cameron alleged that the Galway City Council had refused to collect bins from former customers and that this was “damaging its reputation” and “steering any potential refuse clients to other providers”.

Michael Nyqvist, the Swedish actor who played Stieg Larsson’s journalist/detective Mikael Blomkvist in the Millennium Trilogy film adaptations, is to star in a new TV series created by Ken Bruen.

Galwegian Ken Bruen, one of Ireland’s leading crime writers who has won numerous awards for his work, has created a new 12 part crime thriller series for Swedish television. The series is due to start filming in June with Michael Nyqvist, and will be produced by Bobby Moresco who co-produced Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby.

The west continues to have a strong influence on Dublin, according its Lord Mayor and Spiddal native Naoise Ó Muirí who addressed councillors at this month’s county council meeting, which was held in Oughterard on Monday.

Before the meeting officially got underway, the Lord Mayor told the gathered councillors that while “there are many real challenges ahead for” Dublin “there were many opportunities for us to make progress together”.
