John Walsh was first diagnosed with a tumour in his brain in the year 2000 and has undergone numerous operations and rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatment since due to the continued presence of growths in his body. PLANT charity group has organised a fundraising concert with country gospel singer James Kilbane at the Church of the Resurrection, Ballinfoyle, on Friday September 30 at 7.30pm.

PLANT (Pernet Lay Associates Networking Together) is a voluntary group which gives support to family life across the region. PLANT offers programmes and workshops in Galway to build confidence and add new skills for the modern day family life. PLANT also offers community development workshops (training for transformation) on leadership skills which include personal growth, group skills, social analysis, and organisational development. Other workshops include coping with life situations in grief and loss, art therapy workshops, music therapy workshops, and dream workshops.

Gardai to hold National Property Recovery Day

The local gardai are taking part in National Property Recovery Day next Thursday September 22. This is a national initiative designed to reunite property which has been recovered by An Garda Síochána with its rightful owner.

Oranmore Garda Station is the headquarters for the initiative and the Garda station will be open for members of the public to view property from 9am to 5pm. Property will also be available to view on line via the Garda website www.garda.ie.

Beef back on the menu for Mercosur says Harkin

Despite the fact that EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Phil Hogan, said in May that beef was “off the menu” in Mercosur trade talks and notwithstanding the removal of Tariff Rate Quotas from the exchange of offers, the EU Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström, has told Independent MEP Marian Harkin that this is not the case.

In a written question to Commissioner Malmström, MEP Harkin asked if “beef could still be added to the trade offer at a later stage, or if beef is completely ruled out from any trade agreement with the Mercosur Countries?”.
