Claregalway native, Leah Kilmartin, celebrated her 20th birthday in style last week when she became the lucky recipient of two tickets to the Electric Picnic festival later this year courtesy of aid agency, GOAL.

Leah was the sole winner of a draw between festival goers who signed up to GOAL’s festival pledge to help end the plight of refugees around the world. She received her tickets from GOAL’s Maura Lennon on her birthday in Galway city last Sunday week.

NUI Galway awarded grant for research into Huntington’s Disease

Professor Robert Lahue of the Centre for Chromosome Biology and the Galway Neuroscience Centre at NUI Galway, has received a newly launched research grant to provide new science findings that will underpin his research on identifying potential treatments for Huntington’s disease.

The BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council UK) - Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) joint research grant awarded funding of almost €700,000 between NUI Galway and the University of Leicester. Professor Lahue is just the second NUI Galway researcher to be funded under this new award scheme.
