Playing the perfect granny, Rosaleen's star turn at this year's Fleadh

Thu, Jun 29, 2023

‘She is literally the perfect granny!’ Rosaleen Linehan, the veteran Irish actor, says of her character Emer in Greyhound of a Girl, an animated film adapted from Roddy Doyle’s book of the same name by Italian filmmaker Enzo d’Alò, and co-written with David Ingham. The film will play at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh and Rosaleen hopes that audiences will like it. It’s hard to know, when making an animation, what the final product will be, she explains. This represents less than half of the level of building activity required in Galway, highlighting the significant increase in residential construction that will need to take place if sufficient units are to be provided for the growing population in Galway.

Mayo Aontú rep speaks out for Fire Fighters in Strike Action

Fri, Jun 23, 2023

Aontú representative for Mayo, Paul Lawless, has spoken out to support the current strike action by fire fighters around Ireland, stating: “Retained firefighters are invaluable to our communities but are underpaid and overworked. Without their service, there would be devastating impacts on the safety of local towns and villages.

"The retained fire service is fundamentally important to communities across Mayo because unlike urban Ireland, Mayo relies 100% on retained firefighters as all of the 12 fire stations in the county are retained fire stations, and are made up entirely of men and women who are employed on a temporary part-time retained basis. Retained Firefighters are the lifeblood of the fire service in Mayo.”
