As part of Operation Tara, Gardaí attached to the Galway Divisional Drugs unit preformed a search of a residential property in Corrandulla on the evening of Friday, June 16, resulting in the arrest of a man in his 20’s.

Gardaí recovered a cache of cannabis with a street value of €60,000, and €10,000 worth of cocaine. The man was arrested at the scene and taken to a Garda station in the North Western Region where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and was later released without charge.

Investigations into the property and the drugs are ongoing, with the seized drugs being sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI ) for further analysis.

Operation Tara

Launched in July 2021, Operation Tara is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy that seeks to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and the supply of controlled drugs.

In 2022, Operation Tara commandeered €32 million worth of drugs and reports have shown that while the sale and purchase of illegal substances has decreased, the supply of drugs into Ireland has increased.

This is the second large scale drugs seizure in Galway in the last three weeks, with €105,000 worth of drugs commandeered from a residence in An Spidéal resulting in the arrest of one man, aged in his 50’s.
