Lack of voting rights awareness highlighted by Ogbu

A concerning lack of awareness about voting rights among some residents of Galway, particularly migrants, has been identified by Helen Ogbu, the Labour Party Candidate for Galway City East in the coming local elections. This has come to light during canvassing efforts ahead of the June 7 Local Elections in Galway City neighbourhoods, notably in Doughiska, which boasts the most diverse population in the city.

Galway RNLI’s volunteer crew were requested to launch by the Irish Coast Guard on Monday afternoon (Monday 22 April) to rescue a walker on Hare Island who was cut off by the incoming tide.
The request to launch came shortly before 2pm and volunteer crew Dave Badger, James Rattigan, David Oliver and Olivia Byrne launched the lifeboat and were on the water around 10 minutes later. The lifeboat and crew headed to Hare Island, on inner Galway Bay, which is accessible to walkers at low tide.
