Cllr Frank Fahy’s proposal for the restoration of Menlo Castle has been met with resounding success as Galway City Council announces the receipt of €85,000 in heritage funding for this historic project.
This funding, provided through the Community Monuments Fund, marks a significant step forward in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
This project was proposed in 2015 when Cllr Fahy was Mayor of Galway city. In the region of half a million euros has been spent to date by Galway City Council on it along with other projects such as Terryland Castle, Merlin Castle, Gate Lodge at Menlo and the Browne Doorway in Eyre Square. These are all restoration projects that Cllr Frank Fahy has championed in the last decade.
The core objective of the Community Monuments Fund aligns perfectly with the vision for Menlo Castle, focusing on the conservation, maintenance, protection, and promotion of local monuments and historic sites.
With Menlo Castle holding a special place in the hearts of the community, this funding will enable essential conservation works to be carried out, ensuring the castle’s legacy for generations to come.
