A careless driver, who during a lapse of concentration knocked down a traffic warden, was fined €500 at Galway District Court last Monday.
Donegal native Anne O’Donnell (35) with an address at 32 Leas Na Creige, Oughterard, pleaded guilty to careless driving at Moycullen Road on November 14, 2008.

Ray Rooney was a remarkable man. Tall, distinguished, elegant, articulate, he was the kind of person you’d want on your team batting for your side. The people you want standing on the wall, someone to look over you. As an ambassador, he was most impressive, and although officially the Honorary Norwegian Consul in Ireland, it was for his native Galway that he was most often on diplomatic duties. When he passed away last weekend after a short illness, there was tremendous shock at his death, not least because he was still very much part of what is happening around Galway city and county.

A pregnant woman found in possession of a machete claimed that it had been in her caravan because she used it to cut meat for her dog.
This paltry explanation was rubbished by Judge Mary Fahy who said that this dangerous instruement was a weapon and that the court would not accept that it had been used in any domestic or culinary capacity.

An offer by local farmers to cut the grass in Renville Park, Oranmore, should be “considered seriously” by the Galway County Council according to Fine Gael senator Fidelma Healy Eames.
A number of farmers in the Oranmore area have indicated they willing to cut the 30 acres of grass on an on-going basis. They are also prepared to indemnify the county council for insurance purposes.

An man who denied intimidating and stalking his female neighbour following a dispute over concerns for power hose splashes on his car was fined €500 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
The Galway District Court heard last Monday how “stalking” allegations had been made against Sheamus Farrell of 39 Ard Na Coiste, Headford Road. According to Garda evidence Farrell had followed his neighbour on at least two occasions while in his car despite being warned by Judge Mary Fahy to refrain from such behaviour.

As part of a nationwide campaign The Ardilaun hotel will host a teddy bears picnic for Barnardos this Sunday July 5 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. All proceeds raised from teddy bears bought on the day will go to Barnardos, Ireland’s leading children’s charity.
The event is expected to host more than 150 children and their families, for a picnic lunch of activities, treats and family fun events.
