Galway West Independent TD Noel Grealish has confirmed that Oughterard is to retain its post office. The village’s current postmistress is retiring from the business in September and there has been some concern locally about the future of post office services in Oughterard.
Deputy Grealish said he was delighted to have received confirmation this week from An Post that that the village would definitely retain a post office — a service it has enjoyed for more than 210 years.

Galway Simon Community has raised concerns as the number of people living in Emergency Accommodation in the West is rising almost 50% faster than the national rate, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
The continuing increase in the total number of people living in Emergency Accommodation in the West, is reflective of what they are seeing in their own services, which are “stretched to keep up with demand” from those who need their help.

The residential development is the first phase of the overall Development Framework, and a planning application will be submitted later this year.
