Henry Shefflin last evening (Wednesday ) informed players that he will not continue as Galway hurling manager.
The Kilkenny legend spent three years with Galway, reaching a Leinster final and All-Ireland semi-final in 2022 and 2023.
Their 2024 campaign ended in disappointment as they failed to progress from the Leinster championship.
The announcement came just 24 hours after Davy Fitzgerald announced that he will not be staying on as Waterford senior hurling manager.
The process of recruiting a new Galway manager will commence over the course of the summer, and the names of Liam Sheedy and Fitzgerald are sure to come to the fore.
Shefflin’s arrival in Galway three years ago was welcomed as the beginning of a new era for the Tribesmen, and although there were some close defeats in the past two years, the decline in performance this season menat that last evening was not a major surprise.
